a march desktop calendar

March 2nd, 2010

YES HI…so…march 14th apparently doesn’t exist in my world…if you’ve downloaded this calendar…please be advised: it’s wrong. good news: it’s right now! sunday, march 14th has taken it’s rightful place back in history and will no longer be forgotten. and all those other wrong days are back on track, too.

so sorry. thanks!

be accurate!

February 5th, 2010

beaccurate

considering the snow that’s supposedly on the way, i just had to get one doodle in before all of the power goes out and we run out of toilet paper for the rest of eternity & never see the sun again (quick, go buy MORE eggs! 6 dozen won’t be enough!)

be safe in this snow (if you live where there is snow), but most importantly, get a good windup, steady on your target, and be accurate!*

be friendly.

be friendly

last night was an exceptionally fun time with some exceptionally fun people. i got to meet some new people and catch up with some familiar faces. it was so nice to be in a room full of such friendly people. the best part – that’s just how they are. they don’t try to be friendly, they just are. i want to thank all of these friendly people for being, just that, friendly. it was wonderful to see you all! and a special thanks to cassidy (and his roommate tom!) who opened their home to a bunch of strangers who drank all of the drinks, ate all of the meatballs, and spilled goat cheese all over the floor. :)

a list of my friendly friends – old and new!

be inspired. be doodled.

the doodle for the day

so, it’s been a really long time since i’ve had time to just doodle to doodle – i’ve been fortunate to have a ton of amazing projects come my way, so don’t get me wrong, doodling i have done. but sometimes, it’s nice to sit back and just relax, and see where my doodling hand takes me. i’ve been perusing the interwebs recently looking for inspiration for new spins on my typical doodles. so many people are “doodling” these days – and it’s really fun to see. having said that, i want to be inspired to be different. i have been able to meet some really fantastic people over the last 18 months and they have all pushed me to be creative in different ways. what i’ve learned, that simple isn’t bad, inspiration can come from the strangest places, and no matter what – someone will love it. edits are a part of life, frustration is too, but if you’re lucky, after all the edits and all the frustration, you’ve provided someone with something to smile about – even if it’s just you.

here’s to a 2010 full of new inspiration, doodles…and most of all, smiles.

a lovely photo lady! a wedding show business card!

January 6th, 2010

wedding show business cardeva is lots of fun – not a surprise considering she’s a pal of jaime windon’s. she asked me to start a mini-brand for her photo biz, photoladylove. this is hopefully the first of 6 different mini cards for her. we were in a hurry for this one since eva is participating in her first wedding show this weekend in richmond, va! it’s all very exciting & creating this for eva was awesome. we chatted on the phone for quite a while coming up with all sorts of fun ideas. finally landing on this fun doodle, eva was thrilled, & so am i! :) good luck this weekend, eva!

p.s. the final size of this card is biz card size: 2 x 3.5in.

a doodle for the cold weather…

January 5th, 2010

brucefacebook is great. random people can find you, tell you they love your work, & dive head first into a spectacular Christmas present.  bruce found me on facebook & wanted a Christmas gift for his wife – something different, fun, something she’d NEVER guess in a million years. clearly, a doodle fits the bill! bruce & his wife love mexico and have traveled there for relaxing warm vacations.  iowa is cold. like, REALLY cold. like so cold, that when i lived there as a kiddo, there would be no snow, but we wouldn’t have school because our faces would freeze off if we went outside. i love the cold, but when it’s THAT cold, you do anything & everything you can to stay warm…including drawing pictures of things that remind you of warm weather like beaches & tropical drinks. i was able to capture the warmth of the mexico beach even though it’s about 10 degrees in iowa (seriously, i was just there…yowza). i was thrilled when bruce wrote and let me know that his wife called this gift one her favorite ever – thanks, bruce! :)
